Bernadette Kirwan,PhD

Hello, I’m Bernadette Kirwan and I’m the creator of BodyKind Therapies. I’ve been working as a personal coach for people with dyslexia, dyspraxia and other processing differences for over 20 years and doing body therapies for over 10 years. During that time I’ve seen how many of the people I have worked with become more resilient in crafting an optimistic life when what they do in their life is aligned with their inner being.

In practice, what this can look like is that after years of feeling out of sorts with yourself without understanding why, you are finally able to unlock your struggles and begin to know how to get on top of things.

And I know what that feels like because I was in my late 30s before I understood that I am dyspraxic. That knowledge and self-awareness was the beginning of a path to personal change and self-development. I started training and practising as a massage therapist, and then started looking deeper for a therapy that really goes beyond the surface to your whole being – and I found Craniosacral Therapy. This is the therapy that gave me the chance to come home to my body. I was finally able to let go of that sometimes brittle relationship I had with the world.

Through Craniosacral Therapy I began to soften into new explorations in my mind and body and that led me in unforeseen and positive directions. And I keep on going, because we never arrive at an end point. Each destination is the start of something new.

But, what is it that makes CranioSacral therapy the right therapy for people with processing differences?

Well, it’s a therapy that works with the complexities of all that’s going on for you in this moment, and gives you the time to be fully present to all that’s happening in your mind-body, that you can work through and then resolve.

Craniosacral Therapy offers you a very patient way of bringing understanding to your own complexity, without judgement and with you in control.

On the other hand, you might want to explore your processing differences through discussion in coaching.

By talking with Bernadette, things I’ve struggled with for years have started to ‘unlock’ and completely make sense for the first time. What Bernadette offers is unique, she’s a great listener and incredibly knowledgeable. For me, she’s been an oasis of calm understanding in the sea of chaos that dyspraxia can feel like at times. We can explore strategies and solutions for success in dealing with matters such as organisation, planning, time management, memory and applying your literacy skills at a professional level. We can do this simply and effectively through online meetings.

Alongside these approaches, I also offer relaxing and releasing therapies and yoga practice that will support you on your journey to greater self-acceptance and the feeling of coming home to your body.

And, as I say elsewhere, if you’re not dyslexic, dyspraxic or have other processing differences, please don’t feel excluded because these approaches are for everybody. You’re very welcome here.

My Professional Background

A word about dandelions

You will see the image of the dandelion seed heads used on my website that I think are beautiful. The dandelion flower represents revival and re-greening after winter and it is an early source of food for pollinators. For me, the dandelion clock is an image of simple delights. It represents durability, regeneration and growth. Each seed head is unique and perfect in its difference – just like all of us.
